Exhibitors at Revit Technology Conference 2011

§ September 1st, 2011 § Filed under "Building the Future" articles § No Comments

Earlier this month, I provided an overview of the inaugural Revit Technology Conference (RTC) in the US that was held from June 23 to 25 in the Huntington Beach area of Los Angeles. While that article was entirely focused on the sessions that were presented, this article is dedicated to providing an overview of the different technologies that were being exhibited by vendors such as Bentley, Newforma, Ideate, and CTC, further pushing the boundaries of what can be done with Revit and adding many more capabilities to the application than what Autodesk could do alone.

The inaugural US Revit Technology Conference, known as RTC for short, was held in the Huntington Beach area of Los Angeles a few weeks ago. The RTC actually originated in Australia in 2005 as an expanded Revit user group meeting, and has grown into a full-fledged conference that continues to be held annually in Australia. Debunking the Myths About BIM in the “Cloud”

§ August 1st, 2011 § Filed under Viewpoints § 2 Comments

In this Viewpoint article, Viktor Várkonyi, CEO of Graphisoft, discusses the fundamentals of cloud computing, including the four different approaches to it popularized by different companies such as Amazon, Google, and Apple, and then turns to specifically discuss BIM implementation in the cloud. He debunks the notion in the AEC industry that BIM already has or will very soon have fully moved to the cloud, and discusses the two main factors that should be taken into account when cloud computing for BIM is being considered.

ArchiCAD 15

§ July 14th, 2011 § Filed under Product Reviews § 1 Comment

This review takes a detailed look at the new release of Graphisoft’s BIM application for architectural design, which is focused on the theme of “design freedom” and has new tools and features that greatly expand ArchiCAD’s ability to model freeform buildings while still retaining the BIM nature of the model. These include a brand-new Shell tool that is capable of modeling a broad spectrum of forms, a revamped Roof tool that allows quick modeling of complex roofs, and several interface enhancements that make 3D modeling easier and more accurate.
