AECbytes is a technology publication that was launched by Lachmi Khemlani in November 2003. It focused on researching, analyzing, and reviewing technology products and services for the building industry. It has published a wide variety of articles including newsletters covering conferences and shows, reviews of products, feature articles profiling case studies of firms and projects that showcase the use of technology, viewpoint articles featuring contributions from industry leaders, and tips and tricks authored by experts in individual AEC applications.
As of January 2026, AECbytes is no longer publishing new content. The website, however, will remain active for as long as the 20+ years of articles that AECbytes has published so far continue to be useful to the AEC industry.
In addition to being the founder and editor of AECbytes, Lachmi Khemlani has also consulted on the development and implementation of AEC technology. She has written in industry publications in this field for several years and has also authored books on CAD and modeling.
Lachmi has a Ph.D. in Architecture from UC Berkeley, specializing in intelligent building modeling. Her other credentials include a professional B.Arch. (Honors) degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, and an M.Phil. in Architecture from the University of Cambridge, England. She worked on several design projects as a practicing architect in India and taught CAD and 3D modeling for several years at UC Berkeley. She has given several presentations before both professional and academic audiences, served on juries for technology awards, and continued to stay involved with the research community by serving on the editorial board of the journal, Automation in Construction.
